I feel naked without my helmet!

... and I loaned it to some clown. Of course, I should own multiple helmets. But this tribe isn't about having many of the same kinds of armor...

My question is this: once I have my helmet back, what should I protect next? Shoulders? Codpiece? chainmail for my face?

Kidneys. Protect the kidneys. Perhaps a truss of some kind?

Kidneys to be sure. gotta protect your kidneys.

but make sure your hands are near the top of the list too. can't do much without your hands and they don't have dialysis for 'em either...

If you're going to protect the hands, you may as well protect the arms as well. Hands aren't much good if your arms are in terrible shape.

          now we're on to something.

polyarmory could be taken to mean a lot of things (materials, piece count, types, co-ownership with multiple partners (sic), etc.), but you have to treat all of your system's components with equal regard or you're screwed.

somehow, i feel like i won't be able to treat other components of a multi-armor ensemble with the same respect i show for my helmet.

and i still haven't gotten my helmet back from the clown!

I suppose we must be able to be without envy when we share armor, if we are using that explanation of this tribe's theme. But it can be so difficult!

And I don't want my helmet to feel that I wanted to part with it, that I'm not missing it greatly.

You just have to trust that your helmet will come back, and your helmet has to trust that you'll want it back.

Be sure to make time with your helmet (when it returns) to talk things through, and clearly establish both of your comfort levels.

It depends entirely on the type of combat that you are planning to engage in and your fighting style... (I'll assume you're refering to melee in mock combat)

If you're an "agile" fighter, I recommend shinguards and either bracers or gauntlets... If you're fast enough and with enough stamina, it may be all the other armor that you need.

If you're "not as fast" as you'd like, I suggest focusing on a solid 2 pc. breastplate with both shoulderguards and either a chain or banded array that hangs from the sides and back of the breastplate (to protect your guts! - and padding those sections doesn't hurt, but not padding them can ;) as well as at least bracers/gauntlets.

Codpiece in my opinion is paramount ;-)

Elbows and Knees are important if you're using blunted weapons (I assume SCA or some other like organization) Breast and back plates are a MUST have if you're group allows sneak attacks from behind. No matter how fast you are, an attacker you didn't see coming can still break ribs or put your back out.

Do you have your own armour shop or are you purchasing this?

If you make your own I recomend you get the generic beverly shears from Harbour Freight Tools. They made the job SOOOO much easier for me. I've cut up to 12 gague mild with them and done some pretty tightly turning scroll work.

If you're buying it then I recomend looking at Blankenshield Armouries... impressive stuff.
